Thousands of Montealegre supporters took to the streets today after the PLC candidate declared victory in the race for Mayor of Managua.

With the early numbers coming in last night of an FSLN victory, candidate for Mayor of Managua, three time World boxing champion Alexis Arguello also took to the streets of the capital in celebration with his legion of fanatical of supporters.

Montealegre has denounced the early returns and said his figures clearly stated him reaching over 50% of the vote and the party  in front in 11 of the 16 major municipalities .

The capital is clearly in a volatile situation with the strong possibility it may well errupt. Violence between the rival party supporters is starting to materialize across the country.

The wait for further results is only adding to the tension.

With no foreign observers allowed by the Government, the validity of any result, whatever the outcome, will be held into question.
