On the 23 December at 3:30 pm, Ron Gay and Keith Knight as representatives of the Amigos de la Policia, donated two motorcycles to the Policia Nacional, Granada. They were gratefully accepted by Sub Comisionado Lara in the name of the Policia Nacional, Granada. Bob and Norma Stemm had donated the lions share for these motorcycles and donations to make up the difference (which was taken out of the Amigos de la Policia account) are being accepted at Peder’s Museum (Please specify the donation is towards the motorcycles and get a receipt). We do make a difference, in the safety and security of Granada! Mario Chacon of Nica Noticias and a local radio station is reporting the event on local radio, and hopefully Nicaragua Post website, and Wave Magazine will give us some exposure on the event. January is the time to start paying our annual dues (c1500 at Peder’s Museum, ask for a receipt) so we can continue with our efforts to be Amigos de la Policia de Granada

Managua, Nov 27, 2008 / 04:06 pm (CNA).- Two statues of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, the principal Marian devotion in Nicaragua, were destroyed by vandals this week in the capital city of Managua.

According to news reports, the destroyed statues were placed in the streets and have been used for political purposes by supporters of the government.

Father Rolando Alvarez, director of Radio Catolica, told reporters, “We don’t know who did it, but we do know what they did. They destroyed in darkness and without mercy a symbol of the Catholic faith of millions of people in the nation, because each blow against the Virgin Mary is a blow against millions of Nicaraguans.”

“This is called profanation, he said. It has no other name and the only thing to do is pray for those who carry out such hatred against the symbols of the Church.” Father Alvarez demanded that the statues be removed from the streets, “where they are exposed to the mocking and disrespect for an entire Catholic nation.”
